Everyone's doing it - NOT
Anyone who has sex with someone who is infected with the AIDS virus can also become infected.
Therefore,
the commonly held belief that most young people are having sex should
be examined. Is it true? From the impression given by TV shows and
movies, one might think so.
Research
shows that about half of American high school students have had a
sexual experience, and half haven't. Even among those students labeled
as "sexually active", only two in five are currently sexually active.
The majority, three in five, are not currently engaged in sexual
activity.
|
Many young people who have engaged in sexual activity choose to stop for a variety of reasons which will be explored later.
Among
high-achieving American high school students, three in four have never
had sexual intercourse. It seems they are putting their energies into
achieving future goals. Their success may not necessarily be a result
of greater talent or intelligence, but a result of greater focus. |
