Training Summary
|
Free
Teens Leadership Training provides youth with the life skills they need
most to develop their goals, character and relationships. The goal of
the Free Teens USA program is to empower at-risk and other youth to
develop into mature adults in stable marriages and families actively
contributing to their communities.
The Free Teens program was
initiated in 1989 by Richard Panzer. In 1994, Free Teens USA, Inc. was
established as a non-profit organization. A network of individuals has
furthered the expansion of the program into 38 states and other
nations.
Among Free Teens USA’s many accomplishments have been
the the training of thousands of parents and educators in the U.S. and
around the world, the publication of a children’s book “Mommy, Daddy,
Where Do Babies Come From?”, a SAVE SEX billboard campaign in 10
states, the development of the Free Teens website www.freeteens.org,
and the production of a video called Lovesmart I & II
In
1998 Free Teens USA, Inc was awarded a five year grant from the New
Jersey Department of Health to present its HIV/AIDS awareness and
character-based teen sexuality abstinence program in Jersey City and
Paterson schools. The Free Teens program is presented in five stages: |
- Stage
1: Initial 2 –3 hours education on abstinence, healthy relationships,
meaning of marriage, self-control, self-mastery using multimedia
approach
- Stage 2: Interactive learning using FreeTeens student workbook (2 hrs)
- Stage 3: Weekly Club Meetings using the RQ: Building Relationship Intelligence curriculum.
- Stage 4: Parent education
- Stage 5: Teen Leadership Training and Peer/Community Outreach using Media (music, video, theater, writing and visual arts)
|
The
Free Teens Program goes well beyond the traditional academic classroom
approach. Youths who have participated in the multimedia program in
their schools form Free Teens clubs in local
churches/synagogues/temples. The clubs are guided by Free Teens
outreach and site coordinators and local youth ministers. It is in the
club activity that the youth acquire the skills to deal practically
with issues of positive male/female relationships. Parents are also
trained in the program to encourage family involvement. In 1999 – 2002
more than 6000 10-14 year olds in Paterson and Jersey City schools were
educated each year in the Free Teens program.
|
In 2002, Free
Teens was awarded a grant from the U.S. Maternal and Child Health
Bureau to expand its program to older teenagers in Jersey City and
Paterson, launch a new program in Mt. Vernon, NY and initiate the Free
Teens Media Institute to train youth to spread the Free Teens message
using theater, music, Internet and video production.
In 2004,
Free Teens created a DVD/video series called The Real Deal on Love,
Relationships and Marriage and established a new website, culturemachine.com. If you have any more questions, please contact our national office at 201-488-FREE(3733) or email at freeteens@freeteens.org. |
